Powder Bath | The Befores & Design

Now that the Laundry and Mudroom is mostly complete (the rest of the reveal coming soon!), we’re moving on to the next project on our Home Goals list…the Powder Bathroom! I’ve known since moving in that we’d give this tiny space some major punch with a bold wallpaper, but it turns out, choosing wallpaper isn’t as easy as I thought!

Especially finding a wallpaper that’s conducive to bathrooms. This is only a half-bath, but kids + sink = splashing. And as much as I’d like to ban the splashers from using it, this bathroom is right off the breakfast room, and closest to the garage…so it gets a lot of daily use. Not to mention, it’s the main guest bath when we’re entertaining.

So it’s high time we kicked the homely out of this little bathroom! Let’s start at the beginning…here she is when we moved in…yellow walls, bad tile, dirty grout, builder-grade mirror and light.

Before moving in, we replaced all the floors (see that here), and because I was racked with indecision, I had it hosed down with the same color we used throughout the downstairs (Sherwin Williams ‘Repose Gray’). And this is how she’s sat for the past two years.

Sad, boring, and not an ounce of Sugarplum, wouldn’t you agree? #ZZZZZZZZ

Then two things happened to kick-start this makeover…Samantha Santana and FrogTape.

Let me expand. Last Summer, Jen and I were sitting on the beach in Anna Maria, scrolling Instagram inspiration, and we stopped dead in our tracks at Samantha’s page. Glorious, bright and bold florals like we’d never seen!! We knew immediately the paper would be ours. In fact, Jen’s already put it in her Laundry Room…I’ll pause while you swoon.

But in true Sugarplum fashion, I drug my feet and couldn’t settle on exactly which paper I wanted…nor where I wanted to use it most. This is where FrogTape comes in. They’ve invited me to participate in their FrogTape Paintover Challenge….where six bloggers have three weeks and $1000 to makeover a room! Just the kick in the pants I needed! And even more motivating, FrogTape will put the six completed rooms on their website for a vote…with the winner receiving $5,000 for the charity of their choice!

And just like that, I’ve got a Powder Bath design! The paint color is still undetermined, and I’m not 100% certain the measurements will work for the mirror and sconces…but it’s a start!

Our trip threw a little monkey wrench in this whole thing, so we scrambled to get as much done as we could before leaving…and we’ll have only a few days to finish once we arrive home. The reveal is exactly two weeks from today!!! #panicmode

Next week I’ll share more of the plan details, and the progress we made before setting sail. Until then, send me all your speedy mojo!!

Be sure to check out my fellow FrogTape Paintover Challengers…some of whom happen to be my real-life friends, too! Nothing like a little friendly competition, right!?

Love this! I’m in the process of convincing my husband that wallpaper in our powder room is a good plan. Are you happy with Dorian Gray? I need to update our paint color ever since my 11 year old pointed out that our walls are yellow-ish. Would you use that color again? Can’t wait to see your final reveal!

    Love this design!

I am new to your blog and really enjoying it! Thanks for sharing your tips on self-tanners the other day. I was wondering if you also use the Jergens deep bronze instant sun on your face or if you use another product on your face.

Thanks in advance for your tips!
