Hi Sugarplum!

{Pool Bathroom} Navy or Pink Doors?

January 19, 2012

Thanks for all the comments and tips yesterday! I knew I could count on my bloggy friends for advice. And so today, I’m getting greedy and asking your opinion yet again!

When the painter was first here, he asked if I wanted the doors painted, too. Why yes I do, I replied. What color, Mr. Pushy Painter asked. And my intelligent response? “Um, well, um, I’m not sure. Just um, leave them and I’ll decide later?”

100_6912

Which is laughable, really. Because I have to be the most indecisive person on the planet. At least I think I am. Maybe not? Yes, I definately am! (See what I mean?) Aaaaanywaaaay! This little bathroom (4-foot by 5-foot, not including the shower) has two doors…one leading to the rest of the house, and another to the backyard.

100_6880

The whole point of painting the trim and cabinets the same navy blue as the walls, was to keep it from looking broken up. So blue doors would make the wall appear larger, and be really bold.

But, I found this really fun radish pink on the Home Depot ‘Oops’ paint rack awhile back, and think it’d be a great punch for the room. And come on, pink doors!!?? How fun is that?!

radish door

Here’s the opposite wall with a blue door (the two doors face each other). I think regardless of the color choice for the door, I’ll paint the little alcove on the right pink.

And again in pink.

I know it’s hard to imagine since my pictures are just slivers of the room, so here’s some eye candy to give you a better idea.

And once more, my doors….

blue or pink

I’m torn, and really could go either way. What do you think? And do you have a garage full of paint you didn’t need, but couldn’t resist the color and $5 price tag?!

I think you should go full throttle with the pink… maybe stencil something over it in the blue… then you get to have them both. Thanks for all the inspiration I get from your blog posts. You do a wonderful job.

I don't think you can go wrong with either color; however, I think a few pink accents look perfect (like in the living room example). Think pink towels, pink flowers, or a fabulous mirror with the frame painted pink. Also, look at this link for how fantastic navy and brass look together. http://europaintfinishes.blogspot.com/2012/01/navy-brass-dresser-heads-up.html

I think blue! You can add pops of pink in that little alcove and in your accessories, so you'd still have the pink & blue scheme, but the walls wouldn't be broken up with pink doors.

I vote for blue…. don't paint anything pink. Bring the pink in with fun towels and accessories.

I think painting the doors pink would ruin the sleek and sophisticated vibe you have going with the dark navy.

This is a tough one! I say blue, but maybe with a pattern on the door with washi tape? Hmm…maybe not a great choice in a bathroom. Maybe paint the insets in the vanity pink? Kinda like the 1st pic has the white border above the fireplace. Or what about a brass nailhead design on the doors???
Ok-now I'm going to be thinking about this all day! 🙂

In this case I vote navy but I would add an interesting pattern in white, perhaps paint on fake molding on door a la Dorothy Draper…three squares. Sporty, chic and timeless.

I would say blue. But maybe pany a medium sized bit of canvas in that outrageous pink color and hang it on the wall?

I think my husband would divorce me {or possibly kill me} if I even entertained the ide of that pink color anywhere in my house outside of my craft room or wardrobe.

So I'm saying blue. All the way.

I love the look of the blue and adding pops of pink in towels and accessories and the nook. We have a major snow storm here in Seattle and was out with my girls all day so I did not get to my blogs yesterday. As for the walls…I just lacquered my girls beds and did I a majority of them with a brush but also used a foam roller and went over the roller marks really really lightly with my brush. It takes a little while, but have him do it right, I know it will bug you if you leave it.

Pink!!! I love everyone's point. I think pink follows your heart and I think it's too much blue otherwise. And the computer generated pink is slightly more neon and jarring than it would be in real life. I like a pink door with one more pink accent somewhere. Super cute.
