Otomi Indecision

How was your weekend, lovebugs? We celebrated our anniversary all weekend…any excuse to eat dessert with every meal, right?! Friday night we had a family date night, so the kids could be a part of the milestone. I think it’s so important for them to know we take our marriage seriously, and creating a good relationship is something we’re always working towards. We’re not only raising them to be good people, but good spouses…cause lawdy it’s not always easy being married!

But enough of all that…remember I showed you guys the amazing new Otomi Duvet and Shams from Urban Outfitters in this Friday Five? I have a thing for otomi…a serious thing. So I instantly started searching for the perfect place to use it in our house, when my daughter saw it and begged me to put it in her room. She has a thing for horses…a serious thing. And to her, otomi looks like horses.

Hi Sugarplum | Otomi Bedding

Her bedding was all that remained of her previous Paris decor, and I had no intention of replacing it any time soon. But I had to agree the colors of the otomi shams were perfect for her room, so I caved and ordered it. Problem is, decisiveness isn’t our strong-suit, and we couldn’t settle on which color duvet we liked best…pink or gray. So I thought I’d open it up to your opinion….her room is a little messy, and the duvet is just folded on her bed…but you’ll get the idea.

The shams look amazing, right? And here’s a close-up of the duvet pattern…

Hi Sugarplum | Otomi Bedding

I’ve never considered otomi a juvenile pattern, but the colors and animal shapes make it a great fit for a kid’s room. One more, side by side…

Hi Sugarplum | Otomi Bedding

You guys always come through with great opinions and advice…so what say you?

A. Pink, baby, pink
B. Gray all the way
C. Girl you crazy, that print is whack (in which case, we can’t be friends #ikid)
D. I love the duvet, just not in this room. Stick with the shams only.
Pssst….everything in her room is a DIY project, and you can find them all, including the full makeover, in this post. Except the ‘Girl on Fire’ print, which I made here. And you can shop the Otomi bedding for yourself here.

I'd probably go with "D" but if you're really sold I'm thinking pink is the better option.

  3. PINK it's awesome. As far as "messy" I see floor space which is more than you see with most kids!

  4. LOVE those shams! I've been trying to pull the trigger on them. I say pink it pops more!

  5. I think option D – keep the shams, ditch the duvet. If you're sold on keeping it, go with the pink.

  8. I have to say D. I LOVE the shams, but not paired with the bedding. I agree that either a bright solid bedding or maybe even striped would look awesome.

  12. I like the grey better…but honestly, I'm going with D. It's a whole LOT of pattern and busyness in one room. If you still want pattern, maybe a smaller patterned duvet so it doesn't detract from the other great pieces in her room (the stool, framed pic, valance, shams, etc.).

  14. I'd go with D but if she really wants that duvet then the pink. I love mixing prints but the print on the duvet seems too big to me.

  16. Grey make the bed frame pop!

  17. I'd go with D. I think it's a little overkill with all that Otomi, although I love the pattern, it's a little busy. I think I'd keep the shams and go with a smaller patterned bedding or solid. If you do go with the bedding you have though, I say pink!

You know, while I love the pink, I think the grey makes the bed color POP! The pink duvet just makes the whole bed one color, but the grey really showcases the duvet print and the bright color of the bed. 🙂

    D. I agree with everyone else about it being too much print!

  21. Grey – she'll get a lot more wear out of it (and it kind of "downplays" the pattern).

    Posted 6.23.14 Reply
  22. That is a great print. I've never seen it before! I originally thought I was between A and D. I like the pink, it's warm and I think it looks nice for a kids room, but also it may be a little loud. Looking back at the pictures I think the grey is a great fit! It isn't as busy but you still get that great print coming through.

  23. You're asking the wrong person..I can never make up my mind. I think it looks great either way but a solid duvet would be great too-to really make the shams pop! #nohelp

  29. It's a D decision! At some point soon, your daughter is going to be so OVER pink everywhere I'm afraid.

  30. Oh this is so hard. I like them both! I actually think I like the gray slightly better because it ties in the lamp shade and compliments the red bed. But they both look good! And as for all the pattern comments…I mean, it's a little girls room! What better time to play with lots of pattern, than now?? I say go for it! 😉

I say D. Grey if she loves it and insists on keeping it (you may be more likely to use it in another room in few years if she decides she is done with it). Grey does not compete with the bed, curtains, and cornice.

  32. PINK PINK PINK!!! Love it for a girls room!!!!

  33. I thought the gray duvet made her lampshade and other black accessories really pop! So, I'm going with "B".

  34. I'd say shams only! But if she loves the duvet, I would go with grey, it will 'grow' with her better than the pink and you can always pair the grey with other colors if she grows out of liking pink!

    🙂

  35. I'm voting for pink (and that's coming from a girl who loves her neutrals). Love this bedding – your daughter has great taste!

Pink! The gray gets lost with the wall color. And, if you want to tone it down and make it richer in the fall/winter months, a darker quilt underneath would look fantastic!

I love the pink AND the grey! It's such a difficult choice, but if I had to make it, I would go with pink. It just looks more girly, but the grey really does make the shams pop. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Love it all!!

  43. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but….PINK!!! Even though the gray is the perfect color and the pattern is delicious in gray and white. The Pink just shines! And it's perfect for a not so little girl!

  44. I am in the minority, but I say D -shams only with white bedding. Don't get me wrong. I love otomi patterns. We lived in Mexico for 5 years and have otomi pie ces in our home. In your dsughters room, I think that there is so much color and pattern/shapes and either color would take it over the top. The pillow covers are charming and traditionally made from what I can see. Just my opinion and I am sure your daughter will love whatever my decide.

  47. I like the gray the best out of the two, but am not so sure I wouldn't go for maybe a graphic or trellis print on the duvet, and let the shams be the stars!
