Hi Sugarplum!

{Organized} Master Bathroom Cabinet

March 19, 2013

Last month I finally tackled the Kid’s Bathroom Cabinets, and I can’t even explain how much of a positive impact it’s had for us. Now they can easily get themselves ready, and I’m able to keep a better inventory of bathroom supplies. Not to mention, we’re prepared for houseguests!

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinet

And surprisingly enough, it was a simple and inexpensive task. So I decided to give my bathroom cabinets the same royal treatment. They had the same story…stuff piled up everywhere, and poor use of vertical space. Not having designated spots for things always costs me, too, since I’m never sure of what we have, and end up buying more. Seven bottles of body lotion, hoarder anyone?!

bathroom cabinets

Bathroom cabinets are tricky because of the sink and plumbing, so I’m a huge fan of the Target modular system because it allows you to customize odd-shaped spaces. Just like in the Kid’s Bathroom, by better organizing the cabinet, I was able to fit three times as much stuff, therefore freeing up more cabinet space throughout the house.

Now, instead of a rat nest of cords, and bottles overturned everywhere, my cabinets are joyfully organized. Feel free to stroke pet your computer.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

Let’s take a tour, shall we?

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

I find it easier to get ready if I can access all my products at once, so this wire basket
contains everything I use regularly. I just pull it out and place it on the counter, then stow it away when done. Most of the bottles are really tall, so laying them flat in drawers didn’t seem like a good use of space.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

The large bucket behind the basket holds extras of hair and body products, as well as my collection of travel-sized toiletries. Any time we stay somewhere with particularly nice amenities, I grab an extra set. Then when it’s time to pack, I just shop this bucket.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

I created labels for all the drawers using this method, and placed them in Martha’s bookplates (just like here). If the contents of the drawers change, I can easily update the label.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

I lined the ‘Girl Bidness’ drawer with little buckets from the Dollar Store, and filled them with the smaller essentials.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

Cabinet doors are another great vertical storage spot, but mine aren’t thick enough to drill into, nor do I care for the look of over-the-door hooks. So I used extra-strong Command hooks to hang a small wire rack for perfumes and nail polish.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

Having a confined space keeps me from impulse shopping too, since I know there is no more room on the rack. I mean really, how many shades of red/pink/coral polish does one person need?!

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

I usually display my perfume in a pretty tray on the counter, but now I love having a clutter-free sink area.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

Now let’s move to the right cabinet, where I stacked more labeled drawers.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

The top drawer holds a little something-something I’m working on…more details to come soon.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

The second drawer is for curling irons and brushes.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

And hair dryers and accessories are in the bottom drawer. Ask me how many times I’ve used that diffuser. The answer would be zero. But I might! Someday. And since I have the room for it now, it gets to stay.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets
I Spy a blogger.

Now we’ll move up to the shallowest drawers ever built. Not shallow as in, Ohmygosh did you see her pantyline?!, but shallow as in, less than 2-inches deep. Fortunately, Target saves the day again, with divider trays.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

They hold my everyday make-up, and small hair accessories. Again, this keeps me from impulse shopping the cosmetic aisle since only so much will fit. When traveling, I just pop it all in the striped bag, and nothing is forgotten.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

Now that I’m this mature, I require several serums and potions, so those are arranged in the other drawer using these mesh dividers, along with toothbrushing paraphernalia.

Hi Sugarplum | Organized Bathroom Cabinets

All my travel bags are stacked in a larger case in the middle section of the cabinet. You can read about my efficient packing strategies here.

Mr. Sugarplum doesn’t require near as many products, so his cabinet also holds towels and a bin of toilet paper. We’ve been living with this for a few weeks, and getting ready in the morning is such a breeze, and it makes me stupid-happy to be able to put things neatly away. Why did I wait so long to do this?! And which unsuspecting cabinet is next?

Do you still have the organizing bug, or did you leave it behind in January? Are you having heart palpitations over my cabinets? I feel like I’ve shown you all my undies drawer, so it’s a good thing we’re friends!

I purchased a couple of those racks for my cabinets only to realize that my cabinets weren't think enough to drill as well. I didn't even think about using command hooks. Duh! I cna't wait to try that. Thanks!

Looks great, girl. This was the last cabinet I did in my home, too. I love the little green bins in the larger drawer. Great idea.

We have our trash can under ours, along with all of our cleaning supplies. My MIL gave us a can organizer, which was too big for our pantry, so I was excited that it fit underneath my sink. I am so inspired by your organization. Maybe our trash can needs a re-location!

Now I want to know how the suave Moroccan oil is, and I also want a list of all the nail polishes you have! I think I have that Revlon one—it's Minted, isn't it? Love your organization. This has inspired me!

I'm always impressed at how beautifully your cabinets come together. I really need to get on this myself; having matching containers would help immensely. We have limited storage in our master bathroom, and I feel like we're only using about half of it!
