Between episodes of shoveling back large quantities of food over the Thanksgiving weekend…we did manage to make some progress on the Mudroom. Many of our rooms are in the middle of a makeover, but with school in full swing, and Winter just around the corner, finishing this space is essential for my sanity our family. I refuse to let gloves and coats be my nemesis this year!
Phase One was installing the faux-board-and-batten treatment…to help disguise the SIX doors in our back hallway.
This past weekend we completed the aesthetic portion of the project….paint and replacing the boob ceiling light. Here’s the new paint job, using Behr Ashes. This hall leads to the Family Room, which is painted the same color, and we had leftover paint, so it was a pretty easy decision. I painted the walls above the board treatment, and the ceiling.
And what post, that involves hanging something, would be complete without a picture of Mr. Sugarplum in a strange outfit (here and here)? My sweet hubs, just home from soccer, hanging the new light.
I wouldn’t say he’s electrically astute, but he had no problem hanging the Ikea Knappa pendant, using a recessed lighting converter kit from the hardware store.
Is it the perfect dose of personality for this little space, or what?!
So now that the hall is looking better, it’s time to make it functional….first up….hooks.
Large ones on the top row for heavy bags and backpacks, and smaller double hooks below for lighter jackets and scarves (and easily reached by little people). Both are from Lowes.
We added a little row of small hooks on the opposite wall for keys (they come in natural wood, but we painted it the trim color).
For now, we’re not adding larger hooks to this side of the hall since they’d likely obstruct the walkway. You know men and their need for a wide berth! Or is that just my man? “I need to be able to walk through here without bumping into things!”
Here’s the view when entering from the garage…LOVE!!!
All that’s left is a rug, and putting this space to use! And maybe a splash of color, because neutral and I don’t dance for long. What’s your routine for dumping hats, gloves and coats this time of year?
it looks awesome in there! and i love that your husband hung it still in soccer attire. 🙂
Looks so good Cassie. You've actually made a room out of a hallway 🙂
It looks great! I love the light fixture! Please dedicate a post to how you get your children to actually use those handy dandy hooks! That's where I need guidance!
It looks great! I love that light.. it adds a little bit of personality. Looks like to are well on your way to an organized winter:)
I love that light!
Love, love. love that light in the hallway. How tall are your ceilings? I'm afraid mine are too low to hang a pendant light in the hall.
Crazy in love with that paint color next to your white b&b! This entrance is really shaping up to be pretty and functional! I love getting the little updates at each stage:) Also love the soccer uniform. I have a couple of posts of my husband completing projects fresh from the soccer field as well:) Best wishes for a super organized winter<3
What is it with men and the need for space. It's like my husbands triples in size when he needs to be able to walk through. Ridiculous. Drives me crazy. Glad to know I'm not alone. Loving your mudroom thus far. Thanks for sharing, liz
Looking SO good- well done lady!
When I saw the picture of the new light fixture, I "oohhed" out loud, lol! It looks beautiful! I really like the neutral colors, and I can't wait to see how you spice it up in typical Sugarplum fashion! 😉
You've done it once again with your sugarplum genius!!!!! 🙂 LOOOOOVE this space!!!!!
Love the light! Where you just standing there, light in hand waiting for him to come in the door? Husbands of bloggers…gotta love them!!
Oh what a lovely lovely space to come home to! I need to get my butt in gear over here- my turn a closet into a mudroom project has been on hold for way too long!
When your family wonders where you are I can hear it already…Oh, just standing here by the garage door, that view is killer!! Fabulous job!!
perfect light cassie!
It looks fabulous. Love the wall treatment. Hugs, Marty
Oh it looks awesome Cassie!!
Hi! I love the light too! I have a question about it though…it looks bright…does it put out a lot of light? I have a beautiful light in my laundry room. The walk area (minus the washer/dryer) looks to be about the same size as yours, but my light doesn't put out enough light. Maybe I could switch it with the Ikea one…Thanks!
Hi Anya L — I'm able to reply to your comment via email, so hopefully you check back here! This fixture puts out plenty of light, but it's likely because of the bulb we're using. Maybe try switching your bulb to a higher wattage? Hope that helps!
Cassie, it looks great! xo Kristin love the wall color!
Lookin' good! Such a functional, and fab space!
Gorgeous! I love how you painted the key hooks to make them look built in!
Champagne Lifestyle on a Beer Budget
That is a fantastic looking space if I do say so myself. What a wonderful way to use it too! Loving that gray…I wish I would've used it for my new home…the gray I went with has a blue undertone and that's all I see!! My husband is tired of listening about it..so I'll vent on here. haha
Nice! The light looks great, and the paint was such a good choice. Three cheers for mudrooms!! So wish we had one!
Cute! I'm loving the light fixture, things look great! I need to come up with something for our front entrance because our coat closet is on the other side of the living room, across our cream carpet. No bueno.
ooh I like the view from the garage. And I was going to say, this looks way too boring (colorless) for your taste!
Kudos! If you are like me you will be adding hooks daily!! ha ha
Love it!
OMG- I thought you had a robber in your house at first- but then I looked at the butt and realized it was Mr. Sugarplum. 😉
I recognized that butt right away. Looks amazing, Cassie. What a beautiful space. I can't wait to see how you add a pop of color cassie style.
I am in love with the light fixture! It makes the whole space. And don't even get me started on the trim!! What an amazing transformation!
What a great use of this space. I love the Ikea light (and your hubby's outfit) Ha!
What an awesome idea! I've always wanted a mudroom but didn't think we had the room for one. We use a foyer closet now as the dumping grounds for backpacks, hat, coats, shoes, you name it. Hmm, I think I have a new project for hubby.
P.S. Your hubs is rocking that outfit!
Love, love, love. I adore that light. I miss ikea…none near me. Wah-wah:(
It looks great up in 'der! I really hope we see some chevron doors or the doors with the sides painted… love love that look : ) Can't wait to see it! Happy painting this weekend! xo
Honestly? You nailed it. The lighting is perfection. I can't wait to see what color you chose for the door! I love watching you work your magic on your house.
Abby
love it!!!
