{Home Depot Challenge} Patio Reveal!

I am currently buried in a pile of laundry and work, and can’t believe I’m back to sitting in a cubicle, when 48-hours ago, I was strolling cobblestone streets, gelato in hand! I am so meant to be a lady-of-leisure…not sure how I veered off that path?! But the good news about today is I’m finally able to share our new outdoor room with you!

When we bought our house seven years ago, I could hardly believe we lucked out with a pool. I pinched myself every day that first Summer to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. (If you’ve ever been to Texas in August, then you know what I mean!) But soon after, our attention turned to all the projects inside, and even though we still used the pool, the backyard wasn’t an inviting place for lounging and entertaining.

Hi Sugarplum | Patio Progress

So when Home Depot asked me to take part in their Patio Style Challenge, I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough! Thanks to the Hampton Bay Woodbury 4-piece set, we now have a cheerful outdoor room, ready for Spring picnics and Summer pool parties!

We wanted this room to feel like an extension of our house, so we DIYed a large Starburst Wall Mirror and Over-Sized Rug, and decorated it with treasures we’ve collected over the years. The patio set comes with really well-made, weather-resistant cushions, and the neutral beige is a great base for the fun pink and orange Ikea pillows.

I took last year’s Striped Lacquer Pots, and filled them with cheerful flowers and succulents for more color.

It feels like such a luxury to have a coffee table outdoors! It’s perfect for serving food and drinks, or just propping up your feet with a good book.

The coordinating Dry Erase Tray is another easy project that just adds more fun and personality to the space, and will be helpful for outdoor entertaining.

With the warmer weather, this will quickly become our favorite spot, and between the loveseat and two chairs, there’s plenty of room for all of us to stretch out.

My favorite project, the DIY Otomi Side Table, helps break up the set, and adds more color and pattern.

I have a feeling we’re about to get really popular with the neighbors…and that’s okay with me! I can’t wait to enjoy the space for pool parties and cookouts, and quiet evenings under the stars.

  9. Now you've done it. I'm moving in, your newly transformed patio can be my room, & I'll bathe in the pool (I couldn't even type that w/ a straight face…..we know I don't bathe.)

I love it all, esp. your DIY touches!! Must have that patio set, note to self.

Meanwhile, go on in, I'll just be out here sipping my drink whilst pretending I'm a lady of leisure.

We'll have a pool this summer too, and when is it ever going to get hot?! haha It's the first time in all my life I've been so anxious for our Texas heat, but I'm just so excited to start lounging by the pool….but I need to set up something like you. Lovely! Oh my goodness, I did not even notice that the base pillows are beige until I read that part of your blog. From the pictures, I was thinking, "I absolutely love the pink & orange and what a bold move to commit to those fun colors!!" I adore the look of it all, but also love that you can change your mind on your colors without starting all over. Like you could go with rusty red for fall since it's still warm in the fall in TX:)

I do have a question about those to-die-for-Ikea-accent-pillows—are they made for the outside, or do you need to pull those inside before it rains?

  34. Me! Me! Me! I want to come over! What a totally awesome space, Cassie. It is so happy and inviting. I wouldn't be surprised if you walk out and find uninvited neighbors just hanging out, ha! And, that flamingo pillow just might be my favorite thing 🙂

  41. I love how your happy personality shines through in your new space! All of the bright colors are so fun, and I love how it feels like a "room" outside. Keep the beverages cold, I am on my way to chilax on the new couch and hop in the pool. I have to dodge the snow that is coming our way this week 🙁

Hi Cassie! Would you mind sharing how this set is holding up after a few years? We are in the market for a patio set. I'm looking for something comfortable, but we live in Florida and the set will get full sun for a good portion of the day so I'm worried about durability. Thank you in advance for any input you can provide!

    Posted 6.9.16 Reply
    • Hi!! We still have the set, and apart from where the squirrels have gotten to the cushions, it's still in mint condition!! It stays outside, in the Texas sun, year round, and looks great. I'll recover the cushions this year, but mostly bc of the squirrels, not fading or wear. Hope this helps!! xo
