Fall Trends for Mother & Daughter

Cheers to Friday, friends!! I hope you had a great week, and have fun weekend plans ahead. We’re finishing up some last minute back-to-school errands, then it’s time for the most important part…choosing an outfit for the first day!

I can still remember that nervous feeling on the first day of school, but always being so excited to wear new clothes. We teach our kids to focus more on character and kindness, but I completely understand the confidence boost that comes with feeling good about your outfit.

School shopping was a different experience this year because they both have very firm opinions about their styles, and the look they want to portray. My role was basically to steer them towards what was appropriate (for her), and affordable (for him)! The days of me picking out their clothes have long-gone, and while their styles aren’t always my first-choice, I love that they have the confidence to choose on their own.

Last month, JCPenney invited me to share my take on current trends, and how to adapt them for both Mom and daughter. I jumped at the chance to work with my Little Miss, and it was a day we’ll always remember! If you follow my Instagram Stories, then you saw a sneak peek behind-the-scenes that day, and I’m so excited to share the experience (and the video!) with ya’ll today!

behind the scenes

She’s no stranger to the blog, and has been to several shoots with me, but this was Little Miss’s first time being in the spotlight…especially with such a big production.

When we arrived at the JCPenney Studio, she was equally excited and nervous, but quickly found her voice! We were each presented with racks of clothing options, and she had no trouble piecing together outfits she loved for each of the trends. Then she and the hair and makeup team brainstormed hairstyle ideas for each of the four looks.

We started the day with an on-camera interview, and she blew me away with her poise and expression!

We loved everything we wore that day, and the quality far exceeds the affordable price point! All the shoes came home with me, and Little Miss wanted most everything she tried!

Ruffle Top (adore this one) | Similar Graphic Pants | Chambray Sandals

The rest of the day was spent talking about the biggest trends in fashion right now…ruffles, distressed denim, and feminine tops…and how to (appropriately) translate them for both Mom and daughter. Because I’m not interested in looking like a pre-teen, and she certainly doesn’t want to look like a Mom!

It was a day we’ll remember forever, and I can’t thank this #DreamTeam at JCPenney enough for making it an unbelievable experience for her! They were so kind and encouraging, and I know Little Miss felt empowered.

behind the scenes

I love this precious, complicated, quirky girl with my whole heart, and loved sharing my passion with her. I hope it inspired her to work hard for whatever her heart desires!

We’re both thrilled with the final video, and it’s such a gift to have it to remember this time in our lives. I can’t help but think someday she’ll watch it with her own kids, and know just how much her mama loves her.

That’s an awesome video! Your girl is so spunky and fun. And I love that your relationship reminds me a lot of the one I have with my mom. She and I have similar tastes in clothes, and often will buy the same classic item for both of our closets. <3 This is just so great!

This one one of your most memorable posts. I didn’t think you could top yourself, but this is wonderful! I remember back to school shopping with my mom; I had definite ideas of what I wanted to wear when I was in jr. high and they didn’t always click with her sensible nature!

Your clothes were darling; I’ve already hopped over to the JC Penney site and bought that print tie-neck top! I’d like the boyfriend jeans too, but I’m guessing they run big. Did you take a size 2 in those?

    • Cassie wrote:

Thank you so much, Liz!! I love knowing we’ll have this video to look back on, too! It was hard to determine sizing in a lot of the things because they tailored whatever they had to fit us. But I found their clothes to mostly run true to size, if not a tad big. xoxo

Loved everything about the post and video! I had same question about the distressed jeans. At $19.99 maybe I’ll order in a couple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit. 😉
