Best of 2016 | Decor Projects

And just like that, Winter Break is over and the kids are back in school. But there is nothing like the new year to get a fresh perspective on life, and take charge of the chaos! Now that the holiday decor is packed away, I have a sudden urge to clean every nook and cranny of our house. Not to mention, get cracking on all our unfinished spaces!

Granted, we’ve made a big dent in many of them since moving to this house two years ago, but there are still quite a few that remain untouched from the day we moved in. I didn’t accomplish all the spaces I intended last year, but when I sat down to write this post, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much we did achieve!

Thanks to the One Room Challenge, the Dining Room got the biggest makeover…and the new title of ‘my favorite room in the house’!

Since the Foyer blends into the Dining Room, it got a facelift, as well. All that remains to do in this space is an updated light fixture.

With a teen and almost-tween in the house, having a space the kids wanted to entertain their friends was a big priority for me…so the Bonus Room was transformed. You mamas know…we’d much rather have our kids under our own roof (and watchful eye!). #stalkermom

The two spots that sold me on this house were the Pantry and Screened Porch…so we whipped out a mini-makeover on the Screened Porch just in time for Summer. The rest of Pantry will (hopefully) come later.

We’re thisclose to finishing Little Miss’s Room…in fact, we painted her ceiling over the break. The jury is still out on the color we chose, but almost everything else is done, including a new study area we created in the nook just outside her room.

We got a big jump on the Laundry & Mudroom area of the house, but things stalled out once Summer hit. We’re actually on the top of our contractor’s list for this quarter, so I should have major progress soon!

Two of our main closets were the center of attention last year, starting with a major makeover in the Craft Closet.

The accessories are all organized in our Master Closet, but the rest needs a major overhaul. If an organized closet is your love language, then stay tuned for our first big makeover of the new year!! #thecontainerstorecalled #eeeeek

They weren’t full room makeovers, but two focal areas of the house received proper styling.

And finally, we shared more of the house all decked out for Fall, and again for Christmas. I still pinch myself everyday I wake up here.

We’ve definitely made real progress making this home feel like us, but still have several spaces to go. I have a tendency to get overwhelmed and just close the door, but this year I hope to continue tackling the rooms one at a painfully-slow time!

My goals are to finally choose a Powder Room wallpaper so we can get that room done, and tackle the homliest room in the house…my office! We’ve also had some progress in the downstairs Family Room and Breakfast Room, so I need to update you on that. And I don’t think I shared any of the teen’s room?! Thank you, thank you for the love you show our home, and all the encouragement along the way!

Cassie, I agree! I love all the color. I have color myself at my house and although I like many of the white looks it just is not me!

    Such a cheerful site!

Thank YOU for sharing all of your projects for inspiration for all of us!! I agree with the previous comments, your use of color is fabulous! There are so many farmhouse style and neutral rooms on Instagram and Pinterest, and while i do love to look at those, i could never have that restrained of a pallette in my own home, I just like too many things for that!! (ALL colors are allowed!!!!) So, seeing your projects gives me SO MUCH inspiration for how to bring color in, and still make a room look glamorous and sophisticated!! You are incredibly talented!! Again, thanks for sharing!!
