Hey there, and Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. We’re having a crazy late-season heat wave, so it was a sweaty weekend on the soccer fields for us. I have a few painting projects I’d like to finish, so hopefully the weather cools off soon so I can actually survive more than five minutes in our garage.
You know our son got a room makeover a few years ago, taking it from little boy to pre-teen. Or I thought it was pre-teen, but turns out there were a few touches that are now ‘too baby.’ So we’ve been making small changes, like the Galvanized Pipe Curtain Rod, and Lined Drapes for better sleeping.
Next up was replacing his juvenile Gallery Wall with something more mature, and useful. And I think we nailed both objectives!
As a reminder, here’s how the wall looked before:
The board is over-sized, at 2-feet by 4-feet, to fill the large wall space. We left the magnetic strips so he could tack up more invites, reminders and keepsakes. They also help to anchor the board, so it’s not floating on the big wall.
We distressed the frame to bring some warmth and roughness to his room, and the board is divided into three panels…corkboard, dry-erase calendar, and chalkboard.
These cans (made here) stick directly to the magnetic strip and are perfect for holding dry-erase markers.
He’s only in the second week of school, but already his calendar is full of test dates, project deadlines, and sport’s practices. We keep a family calendar and have a family command center, but this space is just for his responsibilities.

School is only going to get more intense as he gets older, so I’m thrilled he’s learning to be more organized and independent with his studies and schedule.
