Wowza, that was a fast and furious weekend! It was much-needed girl time (I’ll have a recap for you soon!), but I was a little anxious to be away from home, and my babes, since we’re leaving for two weeks this Friday! More on that tomorrow…but today we’re talking shorts and pretty little floral tanks.
We’ve constantly been hitting the 80-degree mark around here, which means it’s time for two things: shorts and self-tanner! I know a lot of you might prefer pants or capris over shorts, but it’s almost impossible to make it through a Texas Summer in pants. I wear shorts quite a bit, but usually choose skirts or dresses for social events this time of year.
It’s not that I feel uncomfortable in shorts, it’s that I feel more comfortable in skirts. Which is why the self-tanner is so key…if I’m going to show that much thigh, then by golly it’s going to be brown! (See my tips on using self-tanner in this post.)
I own several pairs of colorful twill shorts, but the ones I reach for most often are jean shorts…and the more broken-in and relaxed, the better! Unfortunately, a good jean short is not easy to find, especially for those of us with fuller hips or athletic build. Which is why I was as shocked as I was excited to find a pair I actually love! And from Lucky Brand of all places!

Cuffed shorts draw more attention to the thighs, so I love that these don’t have a rolled hem. The lighter wash is perfect for Summer, and the distressing is just enough to look ‘well-loved,’ but doesn’t reveal skin. I usually wear them over my swimsuit, or paired with t-shirts and sneakers…but they’re easily dressed up a bit with a flowy top and cute sandals.
Fit Tip: The shorts are true to size, and I’m wearing my normal jean size (26). The floral tank is XS. Also, all denim, including these shorts, are buy one, get one 50% off right now!

My legs aren’t in the same shape they were a decade few years ago…but it is what it is, right?! I just slap on the self-tanner and go with it.

The sandals are Lucky Brand, too, and have a really cushy footbed, and adjustable straps for a super comfortable fit. They’re a step-up from flip-flops and give the outfit a bit more polish.

A quick change into jeans and heels though, and the floral tank is ready for a night out! I paired it with white jeans to keep the combo light and airy. You may remember the shoes from this Day to Night post…they’ve quickly become my favorite neutral heel.

The tassel-ties allow for a custom fit, so they’re a good option for wider feet, as well. The heel feels sturdy, and they are comfortable enough to wear (and stand!) all day.

Do you bare your legs in shorts, or keep them covered in pants? Either way, you’ll find a ton of options with Lucky Brand, and right now, all denim is Buy One Get One 50% off (all shoes are 40% off, too!)! I long-ago realized no one is paying as close attention to me and my flaws and as I am…so I might as well go for it! Confidence is what makes great style!
