Sugarplum Style | Doors of the Mediterranean Edition

Cheers to Friday! I think we’ve found a bit of a rhythm with the kids this week…although it helped that they had VBS everyday from 9 to noon! It definitely feels like Summer now, and I’m all too aware just how fast it’s going to fly by. How do you balance work life with home life during the Summer months? I’d love to hear your tips for getting work done, but still finding extra hours to enjoy the kids while they’re home. But don’t tell me to wake up at 5am…that’s no-can-do, compadre! 😉

Today I’m excited to share a special Doors of the Mediterranean edition of Sugarplum Style. It’s still daily outfits, but they were all created by mixing and matching items from my suitcase. Don’t worry, I’ll still recap each port, plus have a dedicated packing post that will include everything I took!

I’ve always had a thing for doors when we travel…especially in European and Latin countries. The character, bright colors, aged hardware, and quant number tiles just draw me in. Not to mention, the mystery of what lies beyond those big, heavy doors! Every time one opens, I find myself trying to catch a glimpse inside, and always wonder what life is like for the occupants.  #andImnosy

It all started with this bold cobalt and white door across the alley from our hotel in Sitges, Spain…and next thing I knew, I was lurking and posing in doors all over the Mediterranean!

This flutter top can be worn three ways…so I took full advantage and wore it three times on the trip. I call that an efficient travel top!


This green number served as both dress and swimsuit cover-up. I love it so much I think I need to order the blue one!
Fit Tip: I sized up for a relaxed, less body-con fit.
Typically when I travel, outfits are dictated solely by the weather. But as soon as I found this cotton wrap dress, I knew it would be perfect for both Portofino and Positano. It’s proven to be perfect for steamy Texas summers, too!
Fit Tip: It’s true-to-size, but I bought it in petite for a slightly shorter length, so I sized up one.
This breezy skirt was perfect for warm days, plus the elastic made it pasta-friendly! Depending on the port and activities planned, I carried either this hold-everything striped tote, or this compact cross body.
Our day in France was the coolest, but it worked perfectly because I got to wear stripes. I added my jean jacket for an extra layer in the morning. Also, I’ve never not worn socks with sneakers…but these are actually more comfortable without them! I wore them all over and never had any problems with rubbing or discomfort.
Fit Tip: Make sure you size down in the sneakers a half-size! #trustme
I reached for the tassel-trim skirt on the hottest days…it was even more comfortable than shorts, but I looked more pulled together for wherever we might end up.
Fit Tip: The slide sandals were a comfortable option, too, and the touch of leopard so chic. I sized down half-size in them, as well.

My plan was to only pack one of these racerback dresses, but they fold up so small (not to mention, never wrinkle!), so I ended up throwing in a couple. They worked for both dinners on the ship, and warm days walking in town.

Fit Tip: The armholes are a little low in some colors of the dress, so I wear this genius bra with it. And some of you have asked me to show how I wear the bra…all I have to say is, have you lost your mind?!? I’m not showing a bra tutorial on the internets!! 😉 (Just follow the pics on the product page!) 

I wore this skirt several times, as well, but this was the only door appearance. I paired it with long-sleeve chambray on this day, and a tank for a warmer day in Barcelona. (More on that soon!)
It pained me to crop the top of this door off…but some alleyways are so narrow you can’t get back far enough to capture the entire frame. Let’s just focus on the amazing herringbone and my cute tassel bracelets. 😉
I loved this tiny little door…the top is that line right at my head. I wonder how many times the man of the house has knocked his head on it? And even though it looks like culottes in this pic, it’s actually a darling midi skirt. I’ve worn it so many times in the last few months, I’ve got a fun {5 Ways} style post coming up with it.
This last door is my fave…or maybe it’s just because of the guy lurking in it! Look at all the detail in the door and surrounding stone!
