You guys sure know how to make a girl feel good!! I can not even begin to thank you for all the love and support you gave me, and the Gibson x Hi Sugarplum Resort 2020 Collection this week! I am blown away by your enthusiasm and excitement, and am thrilled you love the pieces as much as I do.

We had an early sell-out, but were able to get more sizes loaded by the afternoon, so if you missed something, be sure to check back! I’ve shared the full Collection, along with tons of styling combinations, but I know some of you prefer to see the clothes in close-up mirror shots…so today is for you! Inquiring minds also want to know what Mama Sugarplum thinks!! Which pieces she’ll wear, how she’ll wear them, along with her best sizing for each.

She came over to help me with the launch on Tuesday, and it didn’t take much to sweet talk her into playing dress-up with me… she adores the Collection and already owns over half of it! So here’s our new Dressing Room Diaries, Resort Edition! Instead of perfectly styled, I’m showing them in the format you like best… real and raw, with close-up views, styling tips, and real-girl fit. Let’s get to it!

Sidenote: I’m 5’4″ and 120-ish pounds, and usually wear a 0/XS. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″ with an hourglass figure, and usually wears a small/2p.

 

DRESSES //

Amalfi Print Maxi Dress

The Amalfi Print Maxi Dress was definitely a reader-favorite and the first to sell out! And with good reason…it’s a stunner! More sizes are now available, but going quickly. We’re both wearing petite for a floor-skimming length, and love it with flat sandals or wedges. It’s an incredible dress for day or night, and so cute with a jean jacket if you prefer to keep your arms covered.

Mom loves all three prints, and especially the black for nights out. She loves it with a jean jacket when she wants to feel a little more covered up.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS-Petite for closer fit and shorter length, but would recommend regular size if you’re over 5’4″. Mama SP in an XS-Petite.
Undergarment: Completely bra-friendly, I’m a fan of this one, but Mama Sugarplum has a larger chest and prefers this one.

Ravello Linen Fit-and-Flare Dress

The cutest dress in the most flattering fit-and-flare shape (you know it’s my go-to silhouette!)… the Ravello Linen Dress will be your new favorite this Spring and Summer for parties, showers and even Easter. Made of a soft, but sturdy linen blend, it’s trimmed in a chic contrasting embroidery with the cutest back. And of course pockets!

Como Knit Drawstring Dress

Every vacation wardrobe needs an easy, comfy dress, and the Como Knit Dress delivers! Made of our incredible super-soft knit, it’s thick and stretchy and the kind of dress you’ll want to throw on everyday. Mom declared it softer than her pajamas, and will wear it all spring and summer with sandals or sneakers. Perfect for all the grandkid’s sporting events she attends, too!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS-Petite for a shorter length and closer fit. Mama SP in a regular XS for the knee-length.

Capri Ruffle Neck Romper

We took our super popular Cavallo Ruffle Neck Dress from the Summer of Color Collection, and turned it into the chicest romper… and we’re obsessed!! The Capri Ruffle Neck Romper has the same gorgeous neckline and stylish bow back as the Cavallo, but now in the comfiest day-to-night romper. The fabric is the same insanely soft and breathable rayon challis we used for the Amalfi Print Maxi Dress, and a wide, smocked waist means it’s extra comfortable around your middle.

Mom doesn’t wear a lot of shorts, but would consider wearing this because of the slightly longer inseam. She’d likely add a jean jacket to feel a little more covered-up overall.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS, but size down if you’re in-between. Mama SP in an XS.
Undergarment: Completely bra-friendly, unless you cinch it extra tight, in which case you’ll need a racerback or strapless bra. I’m a fan of the NuBra, but Mama Sugarplum prefers this strapless bra.

Naples Ruffle Top

Now let’s move on to separates… the colors of all of our tops and bottoms are consistent, which means you can mix-and-match them all to your heart’s content! Starting with the Naples Ruffle Top, a gorgeous, flowy top in amazing rayon challis, that can be worn off-the-shoulder, one-shoulder, or as traditional sleeves!

Mom loves that she can wear it on her shoulders as a traditional tee, and I like it sassy on one shoulder. She’ll also wear it with jeans and wedges since it’s a longer length when untucked.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS, but would size down one if you’re not busty. Mama SP in an XS.
Undergarment: Depending on how you wear it, you’ll likely need a strapless bra. I’m a fan of the NuBra, but Mama Sugarplum prefers this strapless bra.

Mama SP is crazy for the soft jersey knit and swingy (forgiving!) shape of the Limone Embroidered Tank. Plus who doesn’t love embroidery!? She’ll wear it mostly untucked and with jeans for an easy and comfortable day style.

Mondello Pocket Tee

I hate to brag, but we both agree we made the perfect tee!! In fact, Mom scooped it up in all three colors! The Mondello Pocket Tee is literally the tee of my dreams. Made of a soft, slub cotton that washes beautifully, it’s not sheer, has a touch of stretch, and the perfect scoop neck to show just enough skin. We gave it a slight drop shoulder and cap sleeve for a flattering and feminine fit. And of course added a pocket!

Mom loves the quality, fit and length…perfect for wearing out or tying. She said it’s not your everyday tee, but a more stylish, polished tee! I couldn’t agree more!

Bosa Scoopneck Bodysuit

While Mom won’t likely wear the Bosa Scoopneck Bodysuit on it’s own, she loves it layered under jackets and blazers! It’s not only made of the most incredibly soft and stretchy jersey knit, but it’s completely bra-friendly and wedgie-free! That’s right, we made sure the fit across the bottom was comfortable and stayed put! She also loves how smooth it looks tucked in a skirt (no bunching up like tees).

Sorrento Pull-On Shorts

You can’t have a vacation-ready wardrobe without shorts, and our Sorrento Pull-On Shorts are both chic and easy. They’re a pull-on style with comfortable elastic waist and adjustable drawstring. Of course we added pockets, and since they’re made of my favorite rayon challis fabric, they feel incredible and fit beautifully.

The elastic waist allows mom to pull them down for a more comfortable length. She loves the breezy fit for more casual occasions.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS. Mama SP in a small.
Undergarment: Not sheer at all, traditional undies are great. These are pretty much the only ones I wear.

Positano Denim Skirt

I could not be more excited to introduce our Positano Denim Skirt! I love denim skirts for spring and summer, and this one fits like a dream, and looks amazing with everything from tees and tanks to bodysuits and ruffle tops!

We gave it a fitted waist so there’s not gaping in the back, and added pockets for a flattering fit from the front or back! Side slits mean easy walking, but without worrying about showing too much (back slits can be a bit too revealing), and a touch of stretch keeps it comfortable. Mom loves it as a shorts alternative!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS-Petite, but the XS fits great, too, with just a bit more length. Mama SP in a small petite but would prefer regular small for more length. 
Undergarment: Not sheer at all, traditional undies are great, but I’d choose nude for the white skirt. These are pretty much the only ones I wear.

Portofino Maxi Skirt

And last, but not least, our favorite of the group…. the Portofino Maxi Skirt! Made of my favorite rayon challis, it twirls and flows like a dream, while the small ruffle detail and tiers give it shape. It’s an easy pull-on style with elastic waist, but also an operating drawstring for a custom fit.

Mom got all the prints and said it will replace capri pants and long shorts for her this spring and summer. The material is so breathable, she’ll stay cool, yet covered! I like how she thinks!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS-Petite for a long-midi length, but regular XS fits great and grazes the foot. Mama SP in a regular XS.
Undergarment: Not sheer at all, traditional undies are great. These are pretty much the only ones I wear.
