(One Room Challenge) Dining Room Reveal!

November 9, 2016

Let’s just cut all the chit-chat this morning, and get straight to the reason you’re all here, mmmmkay?! Is it {One Room Challenge} reveal day, or Christmas Day…because frankly, I can’t tell the difference right now!

I’m so beyond excited to share our new room with you…and even more excited to curl up with a cup of wine…I mean coffee, did I say wine? (it’s been a crazy 6 weeks!)…and check out the other 19 participant’s rooms today, and all the linking participants tomorrow. It’s going to be inspiration and eye-candy overload this week, and I can’t wait!

Let’s recap for those popping in for the first time…we chose the Dining Room for our third round of the ORC (see our Master Bedroom here and Living Room here), which happens to be the first room you see when walking in the house…and is positioned directly across from our little jewel box of a Living Room.

Week 1 I shared how the room looked when we bought it, along with the floor and paint updates, Week 2 was all about the design, plans and project list, at the halfway point we talked wallpaper, drapes and tying the open floorpan together, Week 4 we swooned all over the wallpaper that was installed, and last week was drapes and light install, plus a rug dilemma. #whew

I’m not going to sugarcoat it…things got a little sideways a few times, and I wasn’t sure the room would come together like I envisioned (I think some of you doubted me, too!!). But all the late nights and fast food dinners were worth it, because they led to a room I can’t believe is in my house! How about I stop yapping and show you our new Dining Room?

I’m warning you though, the number of pictures is excessive, but then again, subtlety isn’t really my game.

The room design started when I found this stunning Ann Jackson wallpaper, and the art by uber-talented Juniper Briggs tied all the elements together.
 Drapes | Hardware | Chandelier | Table | Ghost Chairs | Lamps | Rug

 Chargers | Dinner Plates | Gold-Rimmed Plates | Flatware
Glasses | Linens | Agate Napkin Rings
 Captains Chairs | Leopard Pillow

Pedestal Bowl
 Wallpaper | Art
 Buffet | Clam Bowl

 Dress | Heels | Necklace

Cache Bucket | Mirror Tray | Pineapple Cocktail Forks | Cocktail Coasters
 Piano Bench

 Wall Art

Leopard Tray | Drink Bell | Decanter | Agate Wine Stopper

The foyer got a mini-makeover, as well, to better bridge the space between the two coordinating rooms.

Leopard Rug | Door Paint Color: Farrow & Ball ‘Hague Blue’

 Elephant Planter | Needlepoint Pillow

I could not be happier with the room…it’s exactly the glammed-up Dining Room I envisioned, and is a perfect balance to the adjacent jewel-box Living Room. And of course what good are After shots without the Befores…I’d say this room came a long way!

Making over a room in six short weeks is pretty much bananas, but if it weren’t for the One Room Challenge, it’d surely be 2018 before we got it done! Sure we had a few hiccups and hurdles, but to come out the other side with the Dining Room of our dreams, has been a spectacular experience. Thank you, Linda, for creating this challenge, and inviting me to be a part of it!

And thank you, for following along on this ride, and all your encouragement along the way. Be sure to check back next Wednesday for more details and a full Source List. #nowIsleep #anddrink #itsmybirthdayweekendafterall

(One Room Challenge) Drapes & Dilemmas

November 2, 2016

Welcome back to Week 5 of the {One Room Challenge}! Five?!?!? That means the reveal is exactly 6 days away! I can hardly grasp that fact…especially considering how much is left to do! #nowisthetimetopanic If I’m being honest though, I kind of like the pressure, and dramatics that come with it. I work well under deadlines, but tend to procrastinate like it’s my j.o.b. without them.

Well, no time to waste, so let’s get to the Dining Room. Quick recap for those popping in for the first time, we chose the Dining Room for our third round of the ORC (see our Master Bedroom here and Living Room here), which happens to be the first room you see when walking in the house…and is positioned directly across from our little jewel box of a Living Room.

Week 1 I shared how the room looked when we bought it, along with the floor and paint updates, Week 2 was all about the design, plans and project list, at the halfway point we talked wallpaper, drapes and tying the open floorpan together, and last week we swooned all over the wallpaper that was installed.

Okay, now that we’re all on the same page…let’s get after the progress from the past week, starting with my naked windows. I love how the wallpaper really makes the arch pop, but they still look like a face with no eyebrows (don’t google that, btw).

We solved that homely issue with help from The Shade Store! The custom drapes arrived less than two weeks after I ordered them, and a few days later a professional installer came and hung them perfectly in under an hour. And it only took him one attempt, with just one set of holes…I didn’t know that was possible when hanging drapes and hardware! 😉

They still need to be steamed, but aren’t they so gorgeous?! I’m obsessed with the brushed brass hardware, too. You may recall we have yellow drapes in the Living Room so these tie the two spaces together well.

I made a little progress in the Foyer with this stunning leopard rug from Annie Selke…and I think it’s going to marry the two rooms perfectly. Assuming I find the right rug for the Dining Room. We’ll get to that.

Mr. Sugarplum was going to install the new Crystorama chandelier for me, until we realized it was almost 50-pounds!! We called in reinforcements to avoid that whole ceiling-caving-in-concern.

Rockstar contractor to the rescue!

I was worried the fixture was too modern, but now that’s it’s hung, I couldn’t love it more! Oh, and you can see the new table from Joss & Main arrived, too…it’s larger than our old one, and fits this space so much better. Plus, I love the finish and sexy legs.

Sidenote: Both the old light & dining room table found new homes with local readers! If my new chairs work for the room, these upholstered chairs will be available!

As for the commissioned art piece, Juniper sent me this final teaser and I almost hyperventilated! #canyoueven?! Actually, she sends me shots of the full piece to make sure it’s what I want, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see this goddess in all her glory. (She’s 30″x 40″!) I love that Juniper painted her with blonde hair and blue eyes. #ladyofthehouse

Now, on to the deliveries and dilemmas. I knew the wallpaper would be bold and colorful, so until I saw it fully installed in the room, I wasn’t confident choosing the rug. As soon as the paper went up, I knew we needed something slightly muted on the floor, but with hints of the room’s colors…and this one looked to be the winner.

It arrived a couple of days ago, and no question it’s a stunning rug…it even looks great with the navy chair, leopard pillows, and amethyst lamps…but it doesn’t look good with the wallpaper. At all. #wompwomp

This one clearly has too much gray, so now I’m focusing on rugs with mostly blues…and Rugs USA is gracious enough to send me my top choices to try out. Fingers crossed one is the winner, because it’s shocking how much impact the rug has on a room! We’re talking, make-it or break-it impact. #nopressure

In less dramatic delivery news, art arrived from Minted and is as gorgeous as I hoped…

And fun accessories from my favorite decor shops, Furbish and Waiting on Martha.

I should have known the final delivery was going to be a doozy when a freight company called to schedule it…and asked if they were able to pull their truck up to our garage. #ummmmm But wait until you see this 350-pound buffet beauty from ATG Stores!

My cutie-pie assistant…he’s my go-to when things require assembly, or any kind of real thinking.

PROJECT LIST
Wallpaper // DONE!
Lighting // DONE!
Drapes // DONE!
Paint // Yep, gotta do that
Seating & Table // DONE!
Rug & Textiles // Foyer rug DONE, DR rug still undecided #crap
Art // On its way!
Foyer // Paint that, too

I feel like we’re close, but a lot hinges on that rug. And then we still have to bring everything in, style it up, and take pics! I think my other assistant gave up on me. Or she’s burying her head pretending there are no problems.

If it all comes together like I hope think, I’m going to love this new room as much, or maybe even more, than the Living Room! #eeeek Do you realize that the winner of the World Series, our new president, and my Dining Room will all be revealed in the next week?! 😉

(One Room Challenge) Wallpaper Swooning

October 26, 2016

Welcome back to Week 4 (four already?!?!?!) of the {One Room Challenge}! Before we dive in, I was glad to hear you’re on the puffer vest bandwagon with me…especially since you’ll likely be seeing a lot of them around here in the coming months!

Now…back to the Dining Room. Let’s recap for those popping in for the first time, we chose the Dining Room for our third round of the ORC (see our Master Bedroom here and Living Room here), which happens to be the first room you see when walking in the house…and is positioned directly across from our little jewel box of a Living Room.

Week 1 I shared how the room looked when we bought it, along with the floor and paint updates, Week 2 was all about the design, plans and project list, and last week we talked wallpaper, drapes and tying the open floorplan together.

Okay, now that we’re all on the same page…let’s get after Week Four, and check out the swoon worthy progress!
The wallpaper went up…and it’s even better than I’d hoped!! I mean, it’s take-your-breath-away good in person! It honestly looks hand-painted…down to the brushstrokes.

You bet your boots I hired it out…no way I was going to risk ruining that stunning paper…nor my sanity…by trying to hang it myself! And it was worth every single penny…Laura did an amazing job hanging the paper (no mess or smell, and she did the entire room in a day!) DFW peeps, email me if you want her contact info.

So good, right?! Don’t worry, the gray walls are going buh-bye.

Okay, moving on to more progress! You may recall the main art in our last ORC, and the impact it made on the room. I knew I wanted another statement piece…not only does it create a focal point for such a large wall, but the two pieces would balance each other (remember the two rooms sit directly across from each other.)
But I knew finding a piece that wouldn’t compete, or get lost, on such a bold paper would be a challenge. After scouring Minted for hours, it finally dawned on me that I already had the answer hanging in my Living Room!

I grabbed my treasured Juniper Briggs print off the wall, and tested it against the wallpaper…hello, perfect!

I immediately contacted Juniper, and crossed all my fingers and toes that she had a piece that would work in my room. But after seeing the design board, she felt inspired to create a commissioned piece specific for the room! #pinchme She sent me this progress shot, and I’m already in love!

On to the deliveries…one day it was these ginormous boxes, which held the most stunning purple lamps. Yes, purple.

And remember we went out of town for a few days…well the babysitter was exposed to the craziness that is ORC…we came home to all this.

Which held these gorgeous, and amazingly sturdy, ghost chairs…eight of them, to be exact.

Four panels of sunshine drapes, plus all the stunning hardware…

A few gallons of paint and a saucy leopard rug…

And some really cool folk-art, gorgeous leopard pillows with black piping, and a stunning hand-painted cache pot! #crazyright?!
Part of the agenda this week (hopefully), is getting the drapes and chandy hung. And just as I’m preparing to take this one down, I realized I never posted the DIY behind it!! #badblogger
Here’s the Cliff’s Notes…I found a version of this chandy as a floor-model clearance for $70 (almost two years ago), removed some of the pieces to give it a simpler silhouette, spray-painted it gold, and added black Run ‘n’ Buff to the posts. #bamwhat! I think it looks pretty similar to this pricy version, don’t you?! (See more of it here.)
It’s served us well, but truthfully, it’s just too small for the space, and doesn’t make the impact we need…so she’s free to a good home if anyone wants it! (Except you’re crazy if you think I’ll ship it to you!)

For some nut-ball reason, I decided to include the Foyer in this makeover fun…so that orange door needs addressing, and you can see the new rug size in play. #itsleopard #andamazing And no, I’m not decorating for Christmas early, that mistletoe may or may not be left over from last year’s home tour.

And now that the wallpaper is up, I’ve also got to choose and order a rug for the Dining Room! My assistant, per usual, is no help. Although, I think her vote is for leopard.

PROJECT LIST
Wallpaper // DONE!
Lighting // Replace the chandy, lamps arrived
Drapes // Hang new drapes
Paint // Yep, gotta do that, too
Seating & Table // Table & all chairs arrived
Rug & Textiles // Foyer rug arrived, DR rug still undecided #crap
Art // Commissioned! Can’t wait for more sneak peeks!
Foyer // Paint door

So much for thinking we’d made good progress!! Is it me, or is that project list growing?!?! #sendwine #andhelpers

{One Room Challenge} Making the Big Decisions

October 19, 2016

Welcome back to Week 3 of the {One Room Challenge}! Before we dive in, I was glad to hear you loved yesterday’s Travel post! Nothing like finding a little heaven on earth, right?!

Now…back to the Dining Room. Thanks again to Linda for including me in this fun ride…I’m so excited about all the participant’s rooms, not to mention, love meeting the new readers that find their way here! #heyyall

Let’s recap for those popping in for the first time, we chose the Dining Room for our third round of the ORC (see our Master Bedroom here and Living Room here), which happens to be the first room you see when walking in the house…and is positioned directly across from our little jewel box of a Living Room.

Week 1 I shared how the room looked when we bought it, along with the floor and paint updates, and last week was all about the design, plans and project list.  Okay, now that we’re all on the same page…let’s get after Week Three, and the big decisions that took place.

I’ve known since Day 1 of moving in this house that I wanted to add wallpaper to the Dining Room…but that proved a harder job than I realized, given the sheer number of wallpapers available, and my inability to make decisions! Choosing paint is a fairly easy task…after all it’s just color, and reasonably inexpensive to start over.

Wallpaper, on the other hand, is choosing color and pattern, and not so simple to start again if you aren’t happy. #cha-ching Plus, with our Dining Room being so open, the wallpaper also has to jive with the rest of the house! With that intimidation hanging over my head, it’s no wonder I haven’t been able to commit to a paper, right! Right?! #validateme

For over a year, Kristin and I have been texting each other wallpaper options, and each time our response was, ‘that’s pretty’, or ‘that could work.’ But nothing ever really took my breath away, until I spotted this pattern, and both of us immediately said, ‘THAT’S IT!!’

It’s not just wallpaper, but gorgeous, colorful art for the whole wall.

So imagine my glee when I discovered the paper was actually created by local Dallas artist, Ann Jackson! (I have an affinity for creative businesswomen/artists.) Ann creates gorgeous landscapes and abstract paintings, and recently turned them into large scale wallpaper. I jumped at the chance to meet her, and tour her studio, a few weeks ago, and not only is she just the sweetest, but as soon as I saw the wallpaper up close, I just knew it was the right choice for our room. #thisisgonnabegood

The only problem was, I fell in love with all the color ways!! The paper is digitally printed, but it truly looks handpainted…you can even see the brush strokes and variances of color. I was simultaneously swooning and squealing.

In the end, Kitty and I narrowed it down to Orchid Jewel Box and Creamy Blue…because remember, the Dining Room needs to correlate with the Living Room.

This pic really shows how the rooms mirror each other, and why the two designs need to coordinate. I don’t want it to look like a single giant room, but neither do I want one room to overpower the other. So in order to create a consistent, clean line along the front wall, I decided to duplicate the yellow drapes in the Dining Room.

The Shade Store made it so simple…select fabric, enter window dimensions, choose liner and pleat…and BAM, custom drapes in under two weeks!

Once the drapes were determined, it was pretty easy to see Creamy Blue was the best wallpaper choice for our room!
In delivery news…it was a busy week for UPS and Fed Ex. I also can no longer walk in my Living Room, which has become the holding zone for all the furniture and packages. #victim #sarcasm

These blue beauties were the first to arrive, and I’m already in love!

I was feeling pretty good about things, until I realized we haven’t actually done anything to the room yet! But that all changes soon since the wallpaper is going up this week!! #eeek Adios, plain room!

PROJECT LIST
Wallpaper // Ordered & going up this week
Lighting // Lamps & chandy ordered
Drapes // Ordered, along with brass hardware
Paint // Will decide once paper is up
Seating & Table // Ordered a larger table & captains chairs arrived
Rug & Textiles // Still undecided (waiting on wallpaper to go up!)
Art // Commissioned! We’ll chat more about this next week.
Foyer // Bridge the two spaces with paint & rug. Yeah, I’ll get to that!
Still so much to do, and we’re already at the halfway mark of this challenge! #gulp Thank goodness I have Kristin on speed dial, because my assistant keeps falling asleep on the job.

Thanks so much for following along on this crazy-train with me! Have you ever added wallpaper in your home? I can hardly wait to see how this paper looks in our room! I’ll be sure to share sneak-peeks on my Instastory.
