Mother’s Day is right up there with birthdays and Christmas on the ‘awesome holidays meter’, but is also a bit of an oxymoron for me. It’s a day intended for celebrating Moms, and all they mean to us…however, my one request each Mother’s Day is to spend the entire day not being mom. You know…someone else does the cooking, picking up, bossing kids around, and making sure everyone gets fed, bathed, and put to bed in a semi-timely manner. Oh, and feed me Mexican food. #duh
My guess is many of you have the same request…why else would every brunch spot in town be packed on Mother’s Day?! Daddy’s in charge, and doesn’t want to cook! 😉
My mom and I have always had an extremely close mother/daughter relationship, and a true friendship. The early years weren’t always easy, and even though we leaned on each other, I always knew she was the mom, and I was loved. She made countless sacrifices for me, and worked hard to provide stability in a sometimes unstable life.
The longer I’m a mom, the more I respect and appreciate all she did for me. She taught me kindness for others, joy for life, and a positive outlook towards everyone and everything. And also a love of color!

A few years ago, we started celebrating Mother’s Day a little early with a fun lunch or fancy tea, and it’s become a favorite tradition. Last weekend we gave our pinkie fingers a workout at The Chocolate Angel’s High Tea.

Those little finger sandwiches and sweet scones make me giddy. We always balk at the volume of food, then act surprised when we polish it off! #oink

My mom loves to shop, so I surprised her with a Nordstrom gift card…her favorite retailer! #duh (Their e-gift cards have saved me on more than one occasion!! You can choose one of their designs, or upload your own, then select the date you want it delivered to the recipient’s inbox!!! #procrastinatorslifesaver)
You may recognize parts of her outfit, since she faithfully reads my blog every morning! #thanksmom

Little Miss is more on the tomboy side, but she loves having her Noonie and me all to herself, especially for a girly-day! She says, ‘I feel bad not inviting the boys, but it’s more fun with just us girls!’ #gulp

Mom found her top from one of my Dressing Room Diaries posts, and loved it so much she bought it in three patterns! I have it in polka dots, too! Could she be any cuter?!?!
Fit Tip: The mock-neck top runs true to size…I wear a regular XS and my mom is in a large (she’s busty, something she didn’t pass on to me). Normally she’d order a petite, but liked the longer length of a regular. (It’s available in plus-size, too.)

I love a good romper, but have a hard time finding one that fits me well (it’s a long torso/big bottom thing for me). Also, some of them come across as juvenile, and even though I’m on the petite side, I still prefer to look like grown woman! #rawr This one has a kimono feel on top, with the split sleeves and keyhole-back, but a tailored fit on bottom with pockets and tie-waist.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a S for more length. #coveryourcheeksladies

I don’t know where I’d be without this woman in my life! I love you, Mom!!

What are your Mother’s Day traditions? Do you take the day off from being Mom, too?!
