There is no question that Pinterest is the internet world’s newest time-sucker obsession. Some people try to hold out from joining, but eventually everyone caves. I have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. But only because there are not enough (free) hours in the day to browse all the fabulousness!
I have a Projects I’d Like to Try board, and I’ve decided to actually start trying those pins. Hit or Miss, Pass or Fail, I’ll share my versions along the way.
Today’s {Pinterest Project} is a big, phat…that’s right, with a PH…homerun! Intimate Weddings is the source behind this Pinsperation.
I actually made these Scrabble Coasters as a Christmas gift, but couldn’t show you then since the recipient is a faithful reader! This is my kind of project…cheap, fast, and TV-watchable while executing. I ordered my Scrabble tiles from here for $18, but realized soon after that you can usually buy brand new Scrabble games for around $8. (Note: Scrabble games come with 98 letter tiles and 2 blanks.)
I was using leftover cork from this project, so my coasters are 4 tiles x 4 tiles. That’s a good size for a drinking or wine glass, but you may want them larger for mugs.
I made this set for my aunt, who is a Scrabble/Boggle/Words With Friends wizard, so it was a perfect fit. I even arranged some of the tiles to form hidden words.
My Pinterest inspiration used them as place cards by staining the letters to form a person’s name. Pretty clever!
I think I need a set for myself! They look great on the coffee table, and would make the perfect ice breaker at a party.
Have you been inspired by Pinterest? Do you have a project pinned you’d like me to try? Just link it in the comments and maybe I’ll be your project guinea pig!

Hi Cassie! I did a bunch of DIY projects for the holidays thanks to Pinterest (I did coasters, too!)! I wrote about it here: http://littlebitofclasslittlebitofsass.blogspot.com/2011/12/diy-christmas.html
Thanks!
Ok this is great! My 15 year old son and I play words with friends all the time – thinking about art for his room now – very inspired! Thanks
Ha ha yes yes SOME of us do, in fact, cave ; ) I was just pinning my little heart away right now as a matter of fact! LOVE these coasters- I have been trying to think of a fun Scrabble tile project and this is definitely a good one!!!
These coasters are adorable!! Love them!! I am a pinterest addict!! Soooo many great ideas!! 🙂
Woot- way to start doing rather than just pinning! I need to do the same. Love these coasters!
Love those! I need to start hunting for old Scrabble games. You photographed them so nicely too–nice styling. 🙂
Such a great project! Super cute. These would make great teacher gifts.
Super cute idea and personal too!
I love Pinterest! I am so addicted though I have to make time for my blog also. I could spend hours now on the computer!
Those are so cute! I really adore those. 🙂
P.S. I hope that you'll enter my giveaway!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! Too bad I already have a set of awesome DIYed Star Wars coasters! 😉
These are so CUTE! And simple enough to make a few sets for changing up with the seasons – with some cute phrases or wishes that correspond with the time of year! May just have to try this myself – thanks for sharing!
What a fun fun gift! I know plenty of "wordies" that would love this!
What a great idea. By the way, your pictures are so clear and crisp. I really need to get better at using a camera.
Thanks for sharing another great project…especially the part about where to get your letters. I always wondered how to get the most bang for your buck on that one!
So cute! I thought about a scrabble project not too long ago but didn't want to pull the tiles from our board game. Thanks for the referral for where to order tiles but also to point out it is cheaper just to go buy another darn game…LOL
If I send you my list of pinterest projects how much do you charge to ship all the finished projects to me??! Darling you little DIY diva.
What a great idea! I love these coasters. I lose so much of my day on pinterest…. but happily! 🙂 It is so fun and addicting! I tried some fun Christmas ideas, thanks to pinterest! And for Valentine's Day, I'm going to attach 2 red and white candy canes together with twine to make the shape of a heart! It was an idea I found on pinterest too!
Not only do I love the coasters, but I love the idea of a 'projects I want to try' board! Because I totally need more things to fill up my time (haha) and I keep forgetting to try all the fun stuff I love!
What a quirky little accessory! I'm sure it would be a great conversation starter and/or a really fun gift. Great idea!
What a fun gift! You totally have my head spinning with items you could combine in a gift basket or even just a bottle of wine!
I love these, they are adorable and would make the best gift ever! Thanks for linking, so great to see you 🙂
XO

These came out so cute! I love them. What a fabulous gift, especially for a book lover!
I have been staring at these for quite some time. These would make such a great gift year-round! I just need to actually "do" it. Thanks for the inspiration!
xoxo
Totally cracking up right now about the hold out link!! Ha! I actually just tried last week but they have yet to invite me. They are the ones holding out. LOVE the idea of blue trim. I like how you live on the edge.
How exciting … I just got to be your 2,000th follower! 🙂 (I'm getting ready to celebrate ONE thousand on my blog – haha!:)~
I LOVE these coasters — I have to show them off on my blog this week, if you don't mind! 🙂
Pinned 'em, too! 🙂

I saw this project on pinterest and HAD to do it. So I did as a christmas gift, but I glued my tiles to thin wood slats found at michaels. They were a heck of a lot cheaper than the cork. And that eliminates the bending problem. Then painted the bottom and sides black. I also varished mine when finished with modge podge.
just some suggestions for those attempting this project too! 🙂
