{Outfit Inspiration} Black & White Stripes

Hello, hello! How was your Spring weekend? We had a fabulous, Griswald-worthy weekend, full of family time, including a successful Pancakes & Pajamas Party for my little girl. I’m excited to share the pictures with you, once I get the chance to upload them!

You know from my Son’s Room and Guest Bathroom, that I’m a sucker for stripes. It’s one of my favorite patterns, full of so much punch. And depending on how they are used, stripes can be preppy, sporty, masculine, or elegant, but always dynamic. Especially in a black and white scheme.

Without the stripes, these spaces would be lovely, but certainly not impactful. Same is true for my outfit:

A non-descript black pencil skirt and gray sweater sounds like a professional’s ‘uniform’, but throw in black and white stripes and the outfit has energy!

My closet is chock-full of too many stripes, but I can never resist the vibrant pattern….in my closet or home. Here’s the birthday girl herself, getting in on the pose action!

This blog has become quite the family effort, as even my son is begrudgingly taking the picture!
What’s your relationship with stripes? Do you love wearing strong patterns, or prefer to keep things subtle?
Oh, and speaking of Black & White, if you follow me on Twitter, then you know Mr. Sugarplum and I played hooky from work Friday. He was sweet enough to swing me through West Elm and ZGallerie, where I scored these greek key salad plates for $5/each! I can’t wait to build a tablescape around them! (Probably not Easter.)
{Outfit deets: Striped turtleneck – Mossimo; Gray sweater – F21; Studded belt – F21; Black pencil skirt – Isaac Mizrahi for Target; Black tights – Jcrew; Black patent pumps – Circa Joan & David; Silver earrings – Anthropologie; Dark roots – all me}

    I have a love hate relationship with stripes. I think as far as decor their fabulous… as far as fashion… it depends. A stripe shirt would work… stripes pants would make me look like a double wide. I would need my own beeper for whenever I was backing up!

    Mommy and little girl poses are too cute and you can tell your little girl has as much personality as you! I love black and white–happen to have a lot of it in my home and your plates are spectacular too. They remind me of the garden patterns at the Palace of Versaille in France. Enjoyed sharing in your joy with your new found fashion and home decor finds.

  25. At my local vintage shop they call me stripes for my penchant for buying so many striped shirts. In fact this past weekend I wore black peg pants, loafers and a black and white striped turtle neck that looks identical to yours…how funny! I wore an electric salmon skinny belt with it and a yellow, white and black toile coat…sounds weird, but it worked somehow. Great post as I'm obviously a sucker for stripes too!

  31. I love the b and w stripes in the room with the white ghost chair.
    I used black and white as the base colors for my daughter's first birthday and then added a punch of lime green and chartreuse to spice it up. The basics were black and white so that I could use them again in the future with a pop of a different color. My point (Im never sure)? b and w are classic and just make everything look clean and classic. xoxo shelli
